Time, tide, clouds and moon wait for no man. Least Time, tide, clouds and moon wait for no man. Least of all me. The rambunctious clouds completely interfered in my plans to capture a perfect moonrise shot last evening. I setup with anticipation of capturing the Snow Moon rise over the snow-capped Fairmont Range. But those darn clouds just drifted nonchalantly along the skyline entirely on their own timetable and with no regard whatsoever for my carefully laid plans. Meanwhile, although simple courtesy might have caused the moon to pause briefly on my behalf even just for a few minutes, I doubt she even considered it and just carried on rising behind the curtain of clouds. So I had to make the best of it all as best as I could, despite the universe just doing its own thing, on it's own schedule, with no thought for me and my plans.
“Twas there that we parted, in yon shady glen, O “Twas there that we parted, in yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomond,
Where in soft purple hue, the highland hills we view,
And the moon coming out in the gloaming.” ~ Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond The Scots call it "the Gloaming" and like many Scottish words it's far more descriptive and apt than the English equivalent which is "twilight". Most often the gloaming refers to evening dusk but not exclusively so, it can also describe the early dawn light. So this morning as the full moon descended into a misty cloud bank drifting over the lower slopes of the Purcell Mountains it all seemed very gloaming-like to me on the bonnie banks of the Columbia River. #FullMoon

Today is World Wetlands Day so let's celebrate wit Today is World Wetlands Day so let's celebrate with this Aurora Borealis over the Columbia Wetlands from May 2017. That's the lights of Wilmer on the far side. Here's what good ol' Wikipedia has to say about our wetlands: "The Columbia Wetlands is a 15,070 hectare wetland in the Columbia Valley region of southeastern British Columbia, Canada. It was designated a wetland of international importance on World Environment Day, June 5, 2005, and is the thirty-seventh such site in Canada. The wetland satisfies all the inclusion criteria of the Ramsar Convention. It is maintained by the Columbia Wetlands Wildlife Management Area (CWWMA, designated in 1996) and administered by the Canadian Wildlife Service. It is also part of the Living Lakes Network. It is "one of the longest intact wetlands in North America", is the headwaters for the Columbia River system, and "comprises a regionally unparalleled diversity". Part of the wetlands is protected by the Columbia Lake Ecological Reserve at the southeast end of the lake. Columbia Lake Provincial Park is on the northeast end of the lake." If you wanted to create a slice of heaven on this Earth you wouldn't go far wrong by putting a wide valley between two spectacular and uniquely different ranges of towering snow-covered mountains and then fill the valley with lush wetlands fed by the melt of nearby alpine snowfields and the mightiest river in the continental north-west. Next populate it with numerous species of birds and wildlife. Just in case that's not enough, throw in spectacular sunsets and sunrises all year long and an occasional full-blown Aurora for just that little bit of extra awesomeness. That's our backyard here in the Columbia Valley!! Let's treasure and protect it always. Happy #WorldWetlandsDay2021 #ktunaxaterritory

Beautiful clear blue skies have finally returned t Beautiful clear blue skies have finally returned to the Columbia Valley after an extended period of low cloud hanging in the valley. Here's a panorama view of the Fairmont Range as photographed from the Riverside Golf Course in #FairmontHotSprings during the late afternoon #goldenhour yesterday. If you look at the tree shadows in the foreground you can see that the Sun was getting pretty low. In fact it was just about to set behind the Purcells on the other side of the valley. This is the time of day known to photographers as the "Golden Hour". It occurs shortly after sunrise or before sunset. During this window of time the light is softer and warmer and the subject of the photograph is often accentuated. In this case the setting sun highlighted the complex relief of the mountain range.
