Thunderstorms and rain rolled through the valley around Spillimacheen and Brisco yesterday. This view overlooks the Columbia River and the wetlands with the Canadian Rockies beyond under a sullen grey sky.

Highway 95 lies between the river and the mountains. It’s just a short drive from Radium to Golden but in my opinion it’s one of the most scenic drives in the Rockies and quite simply gob-smacking spectacular as fall progresses. Already the fall colours are starting to appear.

As a bonus for those who take a drive during September the SPILLI STATION CAFE is open to the end of the month and it is one of the best home-cooked lunch spots you’ll find anywhere and the Beeland Market and Coffee Bar is directly across the road with so many good food products to take home. Both well worth the drive even if you hate incredible spectacular fall colour, epic scenery, wetlands, mountains, birds, wildlife and quiet country-road trips

On that note, when in Golden don’t forget to drop in to Bacchus Books and Cafe – unreservedly THE best bookshop on the Warm Side Of The Rockies!

Have you taken this scenic drive in the fall (or in any season)? Share your thoughts below 🙂
