The Columbia River, the Purcell Mountains and the Milky Way galaxy. Jupiter and Saturn to the left.

The light source at the horizon is Canal Flats, 20 km away at the south end of Columbia Lake. Truly dark sky is hard to find in the Columbia Valley and we should do everything possible to minimize light pollution as the Valley becomes more developed. It’s not too late.

For this mission, I dug out my puffy jacket from its summer sojourn. Although the days are still warm, the night air very clearly indicates that fall is upon us. I welcome the change, it’s been a very hot summer.
